Genki's CES 2025 Switch 2 Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. Based on a reportedly black-market acquired unit, the mockup accurately reflects the console's dimensions, highlighting a larger size approaching the Valve Steam Deck.
Key features observed include magnetically attached Joy-Cons, featuring SL and SR buttons with a magnetic release mechanism activated by a dedicated button on each Joy-Con. Despite the magnetic design, Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed secure attachment during gameplay. Furthermore, the Joy-Con's mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, potentially enabling mouse-like functionality via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.
The Switch 2, while larger than its predecessor, maintains a slim profile allowing it to physically fit within the original Switch dock. However, structural differences render it incompatible. The purpose of a new "C" button and an additional USB-C port remains unknown.
