You'll first cross paths with Rompopolo in Chapter 2, during Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields, within the Oilwell Basin. Defeating it is key to progressing your journey to Azuz City. Once conquered (even once!), Rompopolo's entry will grace your Large Monster Field Guide. Feel free to revisit this explosive encounter by exploring the Oilwell Basin or tackling the "Oilwell Basin Blast" Optional Quest.
Strategize for success! Equip water-element weapons (Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest is a good source early on), and bolster your fire resistance. Consider crafting fire-resistance Talismans (like the Fire Charm I) or general defense charms. A hearty meal before the hunt is always a good idea.
Rompopolo Attacks and Weaknesses
Rompopolo's unique attacks leverage its gas-filled, saggy skin. Be prepared for explosions! Poison is another hazard, so pack Antidotes. Your Palico can also be a lifesaver in cleansing status ailments.

- Arm Swipe: A double swipe, relatively easy to dodge.
- Lunge With Arm Swipe: A charging attack with an arcing swipe.
- Tail Swing: A straightforward tail attack.

- Oil Explosion: Rompopolo uses its tail to trigger oil pool explosions.
- Charged Oil Explosion: A more powerful, later-stage explosion.
Capture or Kill?
Choose your method: capture or kill. For capture, weaken Rompopolo until your Palico notes its exhaustion. Use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps, followed by at least one Tranq Bomb. Both methods yield rewards, though some items may be exclusive to one or the other.
