As many of you may have noticed, NCsoft's Journey of Monarch generated over four million pre-registrations, hinting at a significant launch. Well, the wait is over—it's officially released!
Players assume the role of a monarch, a highly customizable character embarking on an adventure through Arden. The game is available on the iOS App Store and Google Play.
Developed using Unreal Engine 5 and featuring dynamic open-world combat, Journey of Monarch promises stunning visuals and engaging gameplay. While the aesthetics are impressive, the ultimate success hinges on the depth and quality of the battle system.
More Than Just Pretty Pictures
What truly captivated me during the previews wasn't the gameplay itself (which is largely predictable within the genre), but the exceptional visuals. The blend of medieval-inspired 2D art, cel-shaded models, and unique perspective creates a captivating experience, reminiscent of navigating a miniature tabletop RPG map.
However, the game's long-term success depends on its ability to differentiate itself gameplay-wise from similar titles like Dragonheir. While the initial impression is strong, it remains to be seen if Journey of Monarch offers enough unique elements to stand out in a crowded market.
