FF7 Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Future Uncertain
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, revealed during a January 23, 2025 interview with 4Gamer, alleviates concerns among PlayStation fans following the staggered releases of previous installments.
Release Date and Development Progress:
While Square Enix remains tight-lipped about a concrete release date, Hamaguchi offered a positive update during a Famitsu interview on the same day. Development, initiated concurrently with FF7 Rebirth, is progressing smoothly, with a key milestone reached by the end of 2024. Kitase also confirmed the story's completion and expressed satisfaction with the narrative's conclusion.
Timed Exclusivity Expected:
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report suggests PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Given the precedent set by previous games – a one-year exclusivity for FF7 Remake and a six-month exclusivity for FF7 Remake Intergrade on PS5 – a similar timed exclusive period for Part 3 on PS5 is highly probable before its release on other platforms.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift:
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's financial report from March 31, 2024, revealed declining sales in its HD titles. In response, the company announced a shift towards a multi-platform strategy, encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This strategic move aims to boost sales and potentially broaden the reach of future titles, including those in the FF7 Remake series, beyond the initial PlayStation exclusivity.
