Meta Stops Selling Quest Pro VR Headset

Author : Benjamin Jan 17,2025

Summary

  • The Meta Quest Pro has been officially discontinued.
  • Interested buyers should consider the Meta Quest 3 as an alternative, offering some superior specs at a lower price.
  • The Meta Quest 3 provides a mixed reality experience with higher resolution, refresh rate, and a more powerful processor.

The Meta Quest Pro is officially no more, as the official website has announced that it is no longer available. The reveal follows an announcement that the Meta Quest Pro line of headsets would be coming to an end, with supplies expected to run out by the end of 2024 or early 2025.

Meta's line of VR headsets has been pretty successful, but the Meta Quest Pro didn't see the same level of adoption. This was largely due to the significantly higher price point, with the Meta Quest Pro going for $1,499.99 when it entered the market. Compared to the standard Meta Quest line of headsets, which have varied in price from as low as $299.99 to $499.99, this was simply too high a price for the average consumer, and didn't see the corporate adoption that Meta was hoping for. As such, the headset was discontinued.

Now, as Meta expected, the remaining quantities of the Meta Quest Pro have officially sold out, as reflected on its store page. The shop page acknowledges that the Meta Quest Pro is no longer available and suggests the Meta Quest 3 in its stead, calling it the "ultimate mixed reality experience." While there's a small chance that interested buyers may be able to find some remaining units of the Meta Quest Pro on store shelves, the longer one waits, the lower that chance will be.

Meta Quest Pro Fans Shouldn't Shy Away From Meta Quest 3

In the meantime, the Meta Quest 3 offers many of the same features and benefits as its predecessor, but at a much lower price, with the entry headset costing $499. Similar to the Meta Quest Pro, the Quest 3 has a special emphasis on mixed reality use, where a user can see their virtual display overlayed on top of the real world around them, allowing them to do things like interact with the environment or see a real keyboard as they type.

In fact, the Meta Quest 3 actually has superior technical specs than the Quest Pro in some ways. The Quest 3 is lighter, has a higher resolution, and a higher possible refresh rate than the Quest Pro, which may all make for a more comfortable and enjoyable experience. The Touch Pro controllers, which the Quest Pro launched with, are also usable with the Quest 3 headset, so users don't have to miss out on that. For those who still find the price point of the Quest 3 to be a little too high for their budget, the Meta Quest 3S is also an option, which brings down the specs a little but also shaves a considerable amount off the cost, starting at $299.99 versus the Quest 3's $499.99.
