Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to Catch Bagon and Evolve It

Author : Aaron Feb 22,2025

This guide details how to obtain Bagon, Shelgon, and Salamence in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Bagon, a Dragon-type Pokémon evolving into the powerful Salamence, is exclusive to Pokémon Violet. This guide covers locating Bagon, transferring it to Scarlet, and evolving it.

Locating Bagon (Pokémon Violet):

Bagon can be found in several locations within Pokémon Violet:

  • East Province (Area Three): This vast area, rich with explorable caves, offers a high chance of encountering Bagon.
  • South Province (Area Five): A fixed Bagon spawn exists atop a mountain southwest of the bridge connecting the grassy and rocky regions.
  • Dalizapa Passage: This location, north of the Great Crater and south of Glaseado Mountain, features a deep cavern with various rare Pokémon, including Bagon and Frigibax. Access is via Koraidon/Miraidon or by foot through cave entrances.
  • 3-Star Tera Raids: Once you have three Gym Badges, participate in 3-star Tera Raids for a chance to encounter Bagon (Tera Type may vary). These raids may offer Bagon with its Hidden Ability.

Obtaining Bagon in Pokémon Scarlet:

Since Bagon is Violet-exclusive, you must acquire it through trading or Pokémon HOME:

  • Trading: Use the Union Circle to trade with a Pokémon Violet player. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online features.
  • Pokémon HOME: Transfer Bagon from compatible games (Sword/Shield, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, etc.) using Pokémon HOME. Transfer the Pokémon to your Basic Box in HOME, then to a PC Box in your Pokémon Scarlet save file.

Evolving Bagon:

Bagon evolves into Shelgon at level 30 and into Salamence at level 50. Efficient leveling methods include:

  • Auto-battling: Use the auto-battle feature against appropriately leveled Pokémon (Chansey is recommended for experience).
  • Exp. Candy: Utilize Exp. Candy (L, XL, or M) for rapid level increases.

Shelgon and Salamence can also be obtained from 4-star and 5/6-star Tera Raids, respectively.

Salamence Analysis:

Salamence, a Dragon/Flying pseudo-legendary Pokémon (600 base stat total), is a formidable addition to any team.

  • Stats: HP: 95, Attack: 135, Special Attack: 110, Defense: 80, Special Defense: 80, Speed: 100. Adamant or Lonely natures are recommended for physical attackers; Timid for special attackers.
  • Type Effectiveness: Super effective against Dragon; weak to Ice (x4), Fairy, Dragon, Rock; resists Grass, Water, Fire, Fighting, Bug; immune to Ground.
  • Recommended Moves (Physical): Dragon Claw, Iron Head (TM099), and other STAB moves.
  • Recommended Moves (Special): Draco Meteor, Flamethrower, and other STAB moves.

This comprehensive guide ensures you can successfully add Salamence to your Pokémon Scarlet and Violet team.
