1047 Games, the creators of the hit multiplayer FPS Splitgate, are back with a sequel! Get ready for Splitgate 2 and the exciting Sol Splitgate League.
Splitgate 2 Launches in 2025
Familiar, Yet Fresh
On July 18th, 1047 Games unveiled a stunning cinematic trailer for *Splitgate 2*, the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2019 sensation. CEO Ian Proulx revealed their ambitious goal: "to build a game that can last a decade or more." While the original drew inspiration from classic arena shooters, the team recognized the need for evolution. As Hilary Goldstein, Head of Marketing, explained, "to make a modern game that lasts, we had to develop the tools for a deep and satisfying gameplay loop. We rethought our approach to portals, ensuring Portal Gods could excel without requiring constant portaling for victory."While gameplay specifics remain under wraps, Splitgate 2 will utilize Unreal Engine 5, remain free-to-play, and introduce a compelling faction system. Expect a familiar feel, but with a completely fresh look and feel. Launching in 2025 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
Often described as "Halo meets Portal," Splitgate is a PvP arena shooter where players strategically use wormholes to navigate maps. The original game's success was phenomenal, boasting 600,000 downloads of its demo within a month. Its popularity led to server upgrades to handle the massive player base. After an extended early access period, Splitgate officially launched on September 15, 2022, only to have updates cease as the studio focused on its sequel. They promised "a new game in the Splitgate universe which will present revolutionary, not evolutionary, changes."
New Characters, Maps, and Factions
The trailer showcased the Sol Splitgate League and three distinct factions, promising enhanced gameplay depth. According to the Steam page, these factions—Aeros (dashing mobility), Meridian (tactical time manipulation), and Sabrask (brute force)—offer unique playstyles. Importantly, Splitgate 2 will not be a hero shooter in the style of Overwatch or Valorant.
While gameplay details remain scarce until Gamescom 2024 (August 21st-25th), the trailer offers a tantalizing glimpse. The developers assure us it accurately represents the Splitgate 2 experience, confirming the authenticity of the maps, weapons, portal trails, and the return of dual-wielding.
Splitgate 2 Comics
Splitgate 2 will not feature a single-player campaign. However, a mobile companion app will provide access to comics, character cards, and a faction quiz to help players discover their ideal alignment.
