"Guide: Defeating and Capturing Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds"

Author : Logan May 21,2025

Ready to take on the fiery Quematrice in *Monster Hunter Wilds* but worried about getting scorched and losing your precious meat? Don't fret, brave hunter—we've got you covered with everything you need to know about its weaknesses, strategic approaches, dangerous attacks to steer clear of, and how to not just defeat but also capture this formidable foe.

How to Beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like beast reminiscent of the Cockatrice, fortunately opts for fire-breathing over petrifying its opponents. As a mid-sized monster, it's vulnerable to a range of weapons, but its area-based attacks suggest opting for a weapon with reach might ease the battle for less confident hunters.

**Weaknesses:** Water
**Resistances:** N/A
**Immunities:** Sonic Bomb

When it comes to its attacks, the Quematrice's tail can deliver some damage with strikes and sweeps, but the tail slam is particularly potent when you're positioned behind it. It lifts its tail high before slamming it down—sidestepping or blocking can help you evade this move. However, its fire-based attacks are the real threat, causing direct damage, igniting you to drain your health over time, and setting the ground ablaze.

These fire attacks come with minimal warning. The Quematrice might rear its head and roar before spewing flames from its tail in front of it. Alternatively, it can perform a full sweep, engulfing its surroundings in fire after a similar preparatory move. It may also execute this as part of a charge, turning at the last second to unleash fire. If you're fighting from a distance, start moving backward as soon as you see these cues to avoid the flames.

How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

To capture the Quematrice, equip yourself with a Shock Trap and a Pitfall Trap, along with at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap is technically enough, having a backup is wise, especially in *Monster Hunter* games, to cover scenarios like the monster fleeing or another monster triggering the trap.

Once the Quematrice is sufficiently weakened and starts limping, or you notice the skull icon repeatedly appearing on the mini-map, it's time to set a trap. Ideally, wait until it moves to a new area after limping away, as this simplifies the process. Lay your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and then throw two Tranq Bombs to secure your capture.
