Anime Life Sim: A Striking Resemblance to Animal Crossing: New Horizons

A new PlayStation game, Anime Life Sim, has generated significant buzz due to its uncanny resemblance to Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH). The game, developed and published by IndieGames3000, appears to be a near-identical clone, mirroring not only the visual style but also the core gameplay loop.

The Animal Crossing franchise has inspired numerous games, but few have attempted such a direct replication. Anime Life Sim's PS Store listing itself highlights the similarities, advertising a "charming social simulation" with features virtually indistinguishable from ACNH: home building and decoration, befriending animal villagers, fishing, bug catching, gardening, crafting, and fossil hunting. These mechanics are all central to the ACNH experience.

Legal Considerations: Gameplay vs. Visuals

While game mechanics are generally not patentable, the legal landscape shifts when considering visual elements. As noted by patent analyst Florian Mueller, aspects such as art style, character design, and specific graphical elements fall under copyright protection in many regions. Should Nintendo choose to pursue legal action against Anime Life Sim, the focus would likely be on the striking visual similarities to ACNH.

Nintendo's history of legal action against perceived infringements is well-documented. However, whether they will target Anime Life Sim remains uncertain. Currently, the game is slated for a February 2026 release on PlayStation 5, with PS4 compatibility yet to be confirmed. The striking resemblance to ACNH, however, continues to fuel discussion and speculation.
