Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat This Fall: Ubisoft Unveils Year 2 Plans

Author : Anthony Apr 25,2025

Ubisoft is steering Skull and Bones towards its most ambitious year yet, with Year 2 promising to expand the pirate multiplayer experience through a slew of exciting content additions. These include new modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and the much-anticipated land combat feature that fans have been requesting since the game's launch.

In a recent Year 2 showcase, Ubisoft unveiled its roadmap for the upcoming year, filled with enticing updates. The highlight, Season 3: Guts and Glory, scheduled for this fall, will finally bring land combat to the game. Players will be able to engage in swordfights and use firearms on land, expanding the action beyond the sea. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore beaches and caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video provided a glimpse of what to expect, but fans will have to wait until later this year to fully experience the new gameplay mechanics.

While land combat stands out as the most significant update for Skull and Bones Year 2, the roadmap promises a treasure trove of content throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, launching today on April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set for summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, will bring the legendary Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship to the game.

If the upcoming content sounds appealing, you'll be pleased to know that Ubisoft is hosting a free weekend for Skull and Bones from April 17 to 21. During this period, players can experience the pirate PvP gameplay firsthand and take advantage of a discounted purchase price, though the exact discount remains undisclosed.

Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. While Ubisoft has kept official sales figures under wraps, they did reveal that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players returning to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, highlighting the enduring appeal of pirate-themed games.
