CD Projekt has confirmed that update 2.3 for Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on July 17th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. However, it will not be available for the Nintendo Switch 2 on that date.
During a livestream, developers explained that the studio requires additional time to finalize patch 2.3 for the Switch 2 edition. While no specific date was given, they indicated it would arrive "soon after" the initial release.
Associate Game Director Paweł Sasko detailed that this patch centers on vehicle enhancements and customization. Adrien Jouannet, Lead Designer at support studio Virtuos, confirmed the addition of three new cars and one new motorcycle—the game's first customizable bike. Each new vehicle is unlocked by completing a brief quest, which Sasko described as intuitive to initiate. These optional quests do not count toward 100% completion for achievement hunters.
The update also introduces the new AutoDrive feature, allowing for hands-free vehicle operation. Lore-wise, this is implemented via an in-game software update for all vehicles. Players can set a destination marker and let the car navigate there autonomously. It's important to note that AutoDrive functions only on roads and adheres to traffic regulations, meaning it will stop at red lights.
If the player comes under attack, AutoDrive automatically disengages to allow manual control during combat. Sasko noted the feature has been fine-tuned to avoid combat zones, suggesting players would need to deliberately enter hostile areas to trigger fights.
A free-roam "wandering mode" lets vehicles drive endlessly on their own, offering a leisurely way to explore Night City. Additionally, players can hire the Delamain AI taxi service for AutoDrive, providing a chauffeured experience.
Combined with the existing cinematic driving camera, AutoDrive enables players to experience Night City from a more cinematic perspective. Sasko mentioned this was inspired by fan videos of extended drives through the city. Photo Mode remains accessible while using AutoDrive.
Photo Mode itself receives significant upgrades in 2.3, including the ability to manipulate time of day and weather for any scene. It also adds 27 new NPCs, fresh outfits, and more natural poses for main characters. CD Projekt teased a new Photo Mode contest for the community.
On the technical front, PC players gain support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.1 (FSR 3.1) with tomorrow's release. While Cyberpunk 2077 will eventually support FSR 4, Sasko clarified it will arrive with a future AMD driver update. HDR10+ gaming is now fully supported, and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is coming to console versions.
Finally, CD Projekt confirmed the previously announced Mac version of Cyberpunk 2077 will also launch on July 17th alongside update 2.3.
Is this the final update for Cyberpunk 2077? The studio has previously stated that recent patches concluded major support for the nearly five-year-old game, but future content remains possible. During the stream, Sasko did not confirm either scenario. Could the game receive one more significant update to celebrate its fifth anniversary this December?
