Capcom unveils a remastered edition of the original Dead Rising game, almost a decade after the last entry in the series. Dead Rising 4, released in 2016, received mixed reviews, potentially contributing to the franchise's prolonged hiatus. While the original Dead Rising launched exclusively on Xbox 360 in 2006, an enhanced version appeared on multiple platforms in 2016, preceding Dead Rising 4. The success of Capcom's Resident Evil remakes in recent years likely overshadowed Dead Rising.
Now, eight years post-Dead Rising 4, Capcom introduces the "Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster." A brief YouTube trailer showcases Frank West's iconic helicopter jump into a zombie-filled mall, hinting at a release later this year, though platforms remain unannounced.
Capcom Announces Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
Despite a 2016 enhancement for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this remaster promises improved performance and visuals. The question arises whether subsequent Dead Rising titles will receive similar treatment. Given Capcom's remaster approach, rather than full-scale remakes like those seen in the Resident Evil series, the likelihood of comprehensive remakes for Dead Rising seems low. Capcom may prioritize the proven success of its Resident Evil remakes, avoiding potential market dilution by working on two zombie franchises simultaneously. However, the possibility of a Dead Rising 5 remains.
2024 has already seen several popular remasters and remakes, including Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and others. If released this year, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will join other Xbox 360-era remasters like Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP.
