Dragon Quest 3 Remake: How to Get the Yellow Orb

Author : Nicholas Jan 24,2025

This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. While the process is relatively simple, finding the starting point can be challenging.

The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially designated as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there. You must establish and develop this village to acquire the orb.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

Merchantburg Location

After obtaining the ship from King Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg is accessible. With quest markers enabled, it's found in the northeast corner of the map, at the eastern edge of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg

While orb acquisition order is flexible, establishing Merchantburg early is recommended. The town requires significant growth time before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently.

Acquiring the Yellow Orb

Hiring a Merchant

  1. Hire a Merchant: In Aliahan, at PALS, hire a new merchant. Minimize combat en route.

  2. Establish Merchantburg: In Merchantburg's sole building, speak to the old man. Offer your merchant; they'll leave your party and establish the town, revealing its name.

  3. Merchantburg's Growth:

Merchantburg Growth

The town progresses through five growth stages. Return after acquiring the Purple (Orochi's Lair) and Blue (Gaia's Navel) Orbs. You'll receive notifications prompting your return. Each visit reveals a larger town, culminating in a cabaret's construction. On your fourth visit, note the merchant's growing unpopularity.

  1. The Revolt and the Orb:

On the fifth visit (at night), the merchant is missing. The townsfolk have revolted, imprisoning him in the house south of his former residence.

  2. Final Steps:

Speak to the imprisoned merchant; they'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to the merchant's house. A quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground to uncover the Yellow Orb.

The Yellow Orb is usually the penultimate orb acquired. The Red Orb is found at the Pirates' Den, the Green Orb in Theddon, and the Silver Orb in the Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine.
