"Hollow Knight: Silksong Fans Hopeful for Nintendo Direct Reveal"

Author : Patrick May 17,2025

While some gaming communities, such as the fans of Tomodachi Life, are buzzing with excitement after today's Nintendo Direct, others are facing yet another wave of disappointment. Specifically, the Hollow Knight: Silksong community is once again donning their metaphorical clown makeup, as the much-anticipated sequel did not make an appearance at the showcase.

Fortunately, there's another opportunity on the horizon.

Of course, now we wait for April 2nd

The Silksong community has been a rollercoaster of anticipation and letdowns for quite some time. A visit to their subreddit or Discord server on any given day reveals a flood of memes and "silkposts" filled with fantasies, predictions, and humor about a game that seems perpetually on the brink of release. We've previously reported on their reactions to back-to-back Directs last year, and the frenzy caused by a photo of chocolate cake in January, which sparked a wild hunt for an ARG that never materialized. From an outsider's perspective, it's challenging to discern how much genuine disappointment there is versus the community's enjoyment of the ongoing jest each time a new showcase is announced.

Nintendo Direct? That’s not until April 2nd

However, there's a heightened sense of urgency surrounding the upcoming showcase. Hollow Knight initially gained fame on PC but truly soared with its Nintendo Switch release the following year, cementing its association with Nintendo's platform. The next showcase is particularly significant as it's a Nintendo Direct dedicated to unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2, expected to feature both hardware and potential launch titles. This grand stage seems like the perfect venue for Silksong to make its long-awaited reappearance. While first-party games are a given, Hollow Knight fans are clinging to the hope that Silksong's popularity will secure it a spot at such a pivotal event, signaling that the game is finally ready for its debut.

Is it likely that Silksong fans will face yet another disappointment, perhaps the 50th time since the game's announcement? It's certainly possible. However, there are glimmers of hope. A recent mention in an Xbox Wire post about indies, though possibly just a playful tease, and recent backend updates to the game's Steam listing, including a copyright year change, suggest that Silksong might be approaching a release date announcement. Yet, the community has been through numerous cycles of hype and letdown, with Silksong appearing and disappearing from various console storefronts, so it's hard to be certain.

The only thing we know for sure is what Team Cherry's marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, stated in January following the cake incident: "Yes the game is real, progressing, and will release." All that's left to do is wait and dream of what life will be like in a world where Silksong has finally been released.

So, get your clown makeup ready for next week, folks!
