Hyper Light Breaker offers a diverse roster of playable characters, each with unique fighting styles, ready to take on the Abyss King. Unlocking these Breakers is surprisingly straightforward, though the game doesn't explicitly explain the process. This guide details all currently available characters and how to acquire them. Note that this guide reflects the early access version, and the unlock method may change with future updates.

How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker

Unlocking new characters requires Abyss Stones, which drop exclusively from defeating Crowns (bosses). To reach the Crowns, you'll first need Prisms—think of them as keys to the boss arenas—indicated by golden diamond icons on the map.

After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost teleporter. Select the Breaker you wish to unlock and spend your accumulated Abyss Stones to add them to your roster. While the game features nine characters, only two are currently unlockable via this method. The unlock process for remaining characters remains unknown at this time.

All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker

Each Breaker starts with a SyCom, a crucial item defining their base stats and core abilities, shaping their overall playstyle. Let's explore each character and their unique strengths:

Vermillion

Vermillion, the starting character, begins with the Gunslinger SyCom, favoring ranged combat. His Rail shots benefit from a critical hit chain reaction—a crit guarantees the next shot will also crit. Alternatively, unlock the Tank SyCom for a melee-focused approach, rewarding perfect parries with increased armor and boasting superior defensive stats.

Lapis

Lapis also starts with a Rail-focused SyCom, Lightweaver, enhancing Rail shot damage after collecting a Battery. However, her unlockable Warrior SyCom offers a unique advantage: increased core stats with each upgrade, making her a late-game powerhouse.

Goro

Goro is a ranged glass cannon. His Astrologer SyCom accelerates Blade skill charging while shooting, whereas the Sniper SyCom boosts critical hit rate. His high damage potential comes at the cost of fragility; mastering his playstyle is key to success.
