What Are Legendary Sumi-E in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
Legendary Sumi-E in Assassin’s Creed Shadows are special ancient paintings of animals that can be captured by either Naoe or Yasuke while exploring the wilderness. When you're close to one, a painting icon will appear on your compass and map. Approach stealthily by crouching and hold L2/LT to complete the painting once you're near the target. However, these legendary Sumi-E don't show up on the map, making them trickier to find. There are five legendary Sumi-E in the game, and their availability depends on the season.

All Legendary Sumi-E Locations in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Legendary Tanuki – Summer, Daytime
To find the Legendary Tanuki Sumi-E, head to the Omi region during the summer, specifically during the day. Navigate to the Shimmering Fields, and more precisely, the Shigaraki Hamlet location. Upon arrival, you'll see Tanuki statues around you. Follow the path upward to a clearing where you'll find the legendary Tanuki. Take your time to approach and complete the drawing.
Legendary Grey Heron – Winter, Daytime
The Grey Heron can be found in Wakasa's Lake Suigetsu area during winter and daytime. Travel to the cluster of islands west of Lake Suigetsu. Approach cautiously as the terrain is flat; dismount at a distance, walk to the marked area, and slowly crouch near the target to complete the Sumi-E.
Legendary Macaque – All Seasons, Nighttime
Head to the Yamashiro region and locate the Little Leaf Glade sub-region. Find the Sarumaru Shrine near the mountains. Wait until night, climb the stairs to the top, and you'll find the three wise monkeys ready for you to draw them.
Legendary Silver Fox – Autumn, Nighttime
The legendary Silver Fox Sumi-E is available at night during Autumn. Navigate to the Kii region and the Nakahechi Route sub-region. At the Kamimisu Inari Shrine, which features fox statues, you'll find the Silver Fox at the cliff's edge. Approach and capture its beauty through your drawing.
Legendary Deer – Spring, Nighttime
Travel to the Yamato region and head to the Yoshino sub-region. The closest fast-travel point is the Mountain Blossom Temple to the west. Follow the path east to reach the Sakura Meadows. Climb the slopes to a clearing at the top where you'll find the legendary Deer ready to be added to your Sumi-E collection.
Keep in mind that even when you're in the right place at the right time, the animals might not spawn. You can try fast-traveling to a nearby location and returning to see if they appear. With persistence, you'll be able to complete your collection.
