Whether to give Sargamis his Splinter of Eothas is one of the first significant choices in Avowed, leading to dramatically different outcomes based on your decision. This guide explores the consequences of giving or withholding the Splinter of Eothas from Sargamis.
What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
Refusing to give the Splinter to Sargamis triggers a confrontation. He becomes an optional boss with a large health bar, presenting a challenging early-game fight. During the battle, Sargamis summons two spirit creatures, primarily targeting Kai. He uses swift thrusting attacks with his sword, covering significant distances. However, he is susceptible to freezing, making ice spells a strategic choice to slow him down.
Defeating Sargamis rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon that restores 3% of your health upon defeating an enemy and adds a 10% fire damage bonus to your attacks.
What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
Upon agreeing to hand over the Splinter, you face three options. You can change your mind, prompting Sargamis to attack you. Alternatively, you can persuade him to enter the statue himself, leading to his death and granting you the Last Light of Day mace. The third option involves offering yourself to the statue. Standing in the designated circle and waiting for Sargamis to activate the machine results in your character's death, earning you the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading the game returns you to the moment before entering the circle. If you leave the circle when instructed to stand still, Sargamis becomes enraged and attacks.
How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed
The optimal approach to handling the Splinter of Eothas is to convince Sargamis that his plan will fail. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. Consider using our Avowed respec guide to adjust your attribute points if necessary. Place the Splinter in the statue, activate the machine, and then discuss the failed attempt with Sargamis. Persuade him that his plan is doomed to fail, leading him to abandon it.
To initiate this path, select the Court Augur or Arcane Scholar background, though other backgrounds may offer similar choices. Guide Sargamis to understand that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option about live soul transfer. After Sargamis leaves, decide whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters for a conversation that concludes this segment of the Dawntreader quest, yielding more experience than fighting or handing over the Splinter.
