Niantic Reveals Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025 Event Dates and Content
Get ready to celebrate the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025, an event that promises to bring exciting opportunities for players worldwide. Mark your calendars for January 29 to February 2, 2025, as you dive into this festive celebration filled with unique rewards and encounters.
The Lunar New Year event kicks off on January 29 at 10:00 a.m. and runs until February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time. During this period, players will have an increased chance to obtain Lucky Pokémon through trades and become Lucky Friends, enhancing the odds of securing those coveted Lucky Pokémon. As you explore the wild, keep an eye out for more frequent appearances of Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini. Shiny versions of these Pokémon will also be more common, adding an extra layer of excitement to your hunt.
For those who enjoy hatching eggs, the event will feature Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi hatching from 2 km Eggs. This is a fantastic opportunity to expand your Pokémon collection with these unique species.
Engage in Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research tasks, as well as Routes, to earn valuable rewards such as Stardust, XP, and encounters with event-themed Pokémon. Additionally, participating in Routes during the event will allow you to collect Zygarde Cells, a crucial component for completing your Zygarde.
For those looking to maximize their rewards, a special Paid Timed Research is available for $2. This offers two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and encounters with Ekans and Nosepass. Remember, all rewards from Field Research and Timed Research must be claimed before the event ends on February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time, so be sure to redeem them promptly after completing your tasks.
Don't miss the chance to showcase your Lunar New Year Pokémon in Pokémon GO's PokeStop Showcases. Competing in these showcases can earn you additional rewards, including item bundles, based on your performance.
Lastly, an event-themed Collection Challenge will be available, offering even more Stardust for trading upon completion. This makes the Lunar New Year event particularly beneficial for frequent traders.
As Pokémon GO celebrates its ninth anniversary in 2025, the Lunar New Year event is just one of many exciting updates and events planned. Look forward to the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova in Los Angeles and New Taipei City from February 21 to 23, followed by the global event in March. Before diving into the Unova festivities, make sure to participate in the Lunar New Year event to add new Pokémon to your collection.
