Paradox Interactive CEO Admits Mistakes, Highlights Life by You Cancellation
Paradox Interactive's CEO, Fredrik Wester, recently acknowledged missteps in the company's recent financial report (July 25th), specifically citing the cancellation of the life simulation game, Life by You, as a significant error.
While Paradox enjoyed strong financial performance thanks to established titles like Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis, Wester openly admitted strategic errors in several projects outside their core strengths. He stated that the decision to cancel Life by You, despite a near $20 million investment, was a difficult but necessary one, as the game failed to meet expectations.
The Life by You cancellation wasn't the only setback. Cities: Skylines 2 struggled with performance issues, and Prison Architect 2 faced repeated delays. These challenges, coupled with the Life by You cancellation, underscore the need for a strategic reassessment of Paradox's game development approach.
Despite these setbacks, Wester emphasized the company's strong foundation built on the success of core franchises. The acknowledgment of mistakes and refocus on core titles signals a commitment to delivering high-quality games for their players moving forward.
