Splatoon 4 Anticipation Mounts as an Era Concludes
Nintendo has confirmed the end of regular content updates for the acclaimed Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned; holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges, weapon adjustments, and balance patches as needed.
The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."
This news follows the September 16th conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival, commemorated by a video showcasing past Splatfests and a farewell message from Deep Cut. "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us," Nintendo shared, "it's been a blast!"Splatoon 3's two-year run, coupled with the cessation of active development, has fueled rumors of a sequel – Splatoon 4. Some players believe Grand Festival locations hinted at a new city for the next installment, though others dismiss these as existing assets.
One fan commented on potential in-game clues: "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Another countered: "The second one is just Splatsville, same model from the opening train cutscene."
While no official announcement exists, Splatoon 4 speculation has been building for months, with reports suggesting Nintendo's commenced development on a Switch successor. The Grand Festival, serving as Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest, further strengthens this belief.
Past Splatoon Final Fests have foreshadowed sequel themes, leading fans to anticipate a "Past, Present, or Future" motif for Splatoon 4. However, confirmation remains pending from Nintendo.
