If you've been following us for a while, you might be familiar with our parent company's event, Pocket Gamer Connects. One of the highlights we host is the Big Indie Pitch, where innovative new indie games are showcased to a panel of judges. Today, we're excited to delve into one of our top runners-up that caught our attention: the math-battling roguelike, Talystro!
At first glance, it might be challenging to differentiate Talystro from the plethora of other deckbuilding roguelikes currently flooding the market. However, upon closer inspection, its unique blend of card and dice mechanics sets it apart. In Talystro, you step into the shoes of the math mouse, embarking on a quest to overthrow the nefarious Necrodicer by battling numerical monsters.
So, how does it work? The gameplay revolves around combining dice and cards to achieve a target number, which you then use to defeat monsters based on their numerical value. It's crucial to strategize, as you're limited to a certain number of dice rolls per turn.
Talystro's visual style is a quirky blend of rubber hose animation and fantasy elements, reminiscent of those math-focused educational games you might have played as a kid. Despite only requiring basic arithmetic, the game remains captivating and intuitive, making it easy to dive right into the action.
Scheduled for release in March, Talystro promises to be a hit with its accessible yet challenging gameplay—a balance that many deckbuilders struggle to achieve. This unique approach is what we believe will truly resonate with players.
