Your rank functions as your in-game level. Starting at rank one, you progress through battles, earning experience and perks. However, simply defeating enemies isn't enough. Rank progression is intrinsically linked to weapon proficiency.

Initially, you possess a single level 1 weapon (a sword). Proficiency increases through combat, influenced by factors beyond raw enemy kills.
