Windows Barricade Strategies Revealed in Project Zomboid

Author : Carter Jan 24,2025

Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid is crucial. While finding a safe haven is the first step, fortifying it against the undead hordes is a whole different challenge. This guide details how to create a basic, yet effective, barricade for your windows.

How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid

To board up your windows, you'll need a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these supplies, simply right-click the window you wish to secure. Your character will automatically begin nailing the plank in place. Each window supports up to four planks for increased protection.

Hammers and nails are typically found in locations like toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are commonly found at construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.). Administrators can use the "/additem" command to spawn these items.

Barricaded windows offer significantly improved protection against zombies compared to unprotected windows. The more planks you add, the longer it takes for zombies to breach the window. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." You'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.

Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators, etc.) cannot be used as effective barricades; players and zombies will simply pass through them.

While stronger barricades can be crafted using metal bars or sheets (requiring sufficient Metalworking skill), the simple wooden plank method provides a readily accessible and effective initial defense.
