Sydney Sweeney Stars in New Split Fiction Film

Author : Jonathan May 22,2025

Sydney Sweeney is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the hit video game Split Fiction. The project is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the production company renowned for their successful Sonic the Hedgehog films. According to Variety, the film has gained significant momentum with Sweeney, known for her role in Madame Web, joining the cast. The directorial helm will be taken by Jon M. Chu, acclaimed for his work on Wicked, with the screenplay crafted by the dynamic duo behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Story Kitchen is currently shopping this promising package to Hollywood studios, anticipating a competitive bidding war.

A key detail yet to be finalized is which of the twin sisters, Zoe or Mio, Sydney Sweeney will portray. This decision remains pending, adding an element of anticipation to the project.

Split Fiction, launched in March by Hazelight and designer Josef Fares, has been a massive success, selling over 2 million copies within a week of its release. It's also slated to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review of the game was overwhelmingly positive, awarding it a 9/10 and describing it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, Split Fiction is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight's success isn't limited to Split Fiction. Their other blockbuster game, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies, is also being adapted into a film with potential involvement from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. While there's always a chance these adaptations might not materialize, the current boom in video game adaptations suggests a strong likelihood of success.

Last year, Story Kitchen announced several other projects, including a film adaptation of Square Enix's Just Cause with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto, and adaptations of Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing their next game, keeping fans eagerly awaiting their next innovative title.
