Earlier this year, Dell revived the iconic Alienware Area-51 prebuilt gaming PC lineup. Initially limited to RTX 5080 configurations, the system now offers the flagship Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU - currently the most powerful graphics card available. One of the two available preconfigured models is currently discounted.
Alienware Area-51 Intel Core Ultra 9 285K RTX 5090 Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)
This Area-51 configuration now costs $4,999.99 - a $500 savings from its original $5,499.99 price. It features Intel's latest Core Ultra 9 285K processor, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and 2TB SSD storage. While the Ultra 9 285K isn't the dramatic improvement some expected over the i9-14900K, it remains Intel's top-performing CPU for both gaming and workstation tasks. The system includes a massive 360mm liquid cooler and 1,500W Platinum power supply.
2025 Alienware Area-51 Chassis Redesign
Debuted at CES 2025, the new Area-51 chassis builds upon the 2024 R16 design with improved cooling and aesthetics. Major changes include relocating the I/O panel to the top, implementing a full-side tempered glass panel (replacing previous smaller windows), and repositioning airflow vents to the front and bottom only. These modifications enable a positive air pressure system for reduced dust accumulation. Internally, the system features upgraded components including a new motherboard, faster memory support, and enhanced power delivery for next-gen hardware.
RTX 5090: The New Performance King
Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5090 currently stands as the most powerful consumer GPU available. While its rasterization performance shows only a 25-30% improvement over the RTX 4090, it shines in AI-accelerated workloads with DLSS 4 support. The card also doubles down with 32GB of cutting-edge GDDR7 memory (vs. 24GB GDDR6 in the 4090). Retail supply remains extremely limited, with eBay listings reaching $3,500-$4,000.
"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 unseats the RTX 4090, though with less dramatic performance gains than previous generations. Traditional gaming performance shows modest improvements, but DLSS 4 delivers transformative frame rate boosts in supported titles - acknowledging that most frames are now AI-generated." - Jackie Thomas, IGN Hardware Review
