AMD officially unveiled its highly anticipated next-generation graphics cards, the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, at CES 2025. Interestingly, neither of these RDNA 4-based GPUs appeared during AMD’s keynote presentation, although several vendors showcased the models on the show floor with censored specifications.
In a recent update, David McAfee, Vice President and General Manager of Radeon Graphics and Ryzen CPUs, shared via Twitter/X that both cards are scheduled for release in March 2025. McAfee expressed excitement about the global availability of a diverse range of Radeon 9000 series cards, emphasizing anticipation among gamers for their arrival.
While the exact specifications and pricing remain undisclosed, industry insiders suggest that the RX 9070 lineup will likely compete within the same price-performance spectrum as Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, which are slated for release in February 2025. Despite the lack of official details, reports confirm that stocks of the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT have already reached retailers, with review samples delivered to select outlets like eTeknix.
This unusual rollout has fueled speculation regarding AMD’s strategic decision to delay the formal announcement until March. Many believe the move aims to counteract Nvidia’s competitive edge with its RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti releases. Additionally, market analysts point to potential pricing pressures from Nvidia as another factor influencing AMD’s timing.
As the RX 9070 series prepares for launch, the messaging around its introduction remains fragmented due to insufficient information. According to a report from June 2024, Nvidia dominates the discrete GPU market with 88%, leaving AMD with a modest 12%. Given the absence of strong competitors in the mid-to-high-end segment, AMD faces a critical challenge in narrowing Nvidia’s substantial lead.
