Anbernic, a popular manufacturer of retro handheld consoles, has announced a suspension of all U.S. orders due to recent changes in U.S. tariff policies. As reported by The Verge, the company advised customers to opt for products shipped from their U.S. warehouse, which are not affected by the new import duties, ensuring a hassle-free purchase. Unfortunately, orders requiring shipment from China will not be processed at this time.
Anbernic is renowned for its affordable Game Boy-inspired devices, which are usually shipped directly from China to customers upon release, with additional stock held in U.S. warehouses. Their website allows customers to select their preferred shipping location, but not all products are available from the U.S., meaning certain items like the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H are currently unavailable to American customers.
The U.S. government, under the Trump administration, has imposed tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese imports, with warnings that tariffs on specific products, such as electric vehicles, could escalate to 245% when combined with existing levies. These increased costs are typically passed on to consumers, affecting the prices of tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.
Anbernic is actively seeking a resolution for customers affected by customs fees during this period of transition.
In related news, Nintendo recently unveiled the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct. Originally, pre-orders for the Switch 2 were scheduled to open in early April in the U.S., but due to tariff uncertainties in both the U.S. and Canada, the pre-order date was delayed to April 24. Nintendo has maintained the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and its games, yet raised prices on most of the Switch 2 accessories.
