SoMoGa Inc. has released an updated version of Vay for Android, iOS, and Steam. This classic 16-bit RPG, originally released in Japan in 1993 on the Sega CD, has received a significant overhaul, boasting enhanced visuals, a modernized user interface, and controller support. Initially localized for the US by Working Designs, and previously re-released on iOS in 2008 by SoMoGa, this revitalized version promises a fresh take on a beloved title.
This revamped edition features over 100 enemies, a dozen challenging bosses, and exploration across 90 diverse areas. A welcome addition is the inclusion of adjustable difficulty levels, catering to players of varying skill. Furthermore, auto-saving and Bluetooth controller compatibility enhance the gameplay experience. Players can acquire new equipment, level up their characters to unlock new spells, and even utilize an AI system for autonomous character combat.
The narrative unfolds in a distant galaxy scarred by a millennia-long interstellar war. A colossal, malfunctioning war machine crashes onto the technologically underdeveloped planet Vay, unleashing devastation. The player embarks on a quest to rescue their abducted wife, a mission that intertwines with the fate of the entire world, following an attack on their wedding day.
Vay's compelling storyline seamlessly blends nostalgia with modern enhancements. Faithful to its JRPG roots, it retains the classic experience-and-gold-gaining system through random encounters. Adding to the immersive experience are nearly ten minutes of animated cutscenes, available in both English and Japanese audio.
Vay revamped is available now on the Google Play Store for $5.99. Be sure to check out other gaming news for further updates.
