Black Myth: Wukong Arrives on Xbox Series X/S August 20

Author : Lucas Jun 16,2025

*Black Myth: Wukong*, the critically acclaimed action RPG based on the legendary Chinese novel *Journey to the West*, is finally coming to Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2025—a full year after its initial launch on PS5 and PC.

Xbox officially announced the release date via a tweet/X post that read:

You are the Destined One. Black Myth: Wukong is coming August 20. Pre-order begins June 18!

The game has enjoyed massive commercial success, having sold over 25 million copies globally as of January 31, 2025. Despite its popularity, the absence of an Xbox version had been a glaring omission—especially since it was never confirmed as a timed exclusive.

Earlier reports suggested the delay might have stemmed from a temporary exclusivity deal with Sony. However, Fen Ji, founder of developer Game Science, reportedly pointed to technical challenges instead—particularly those posed by the Xbox Series S’s limited hardware.

“The only thing missing is the Xbox,” he said in a translated statement, “which somehow feels a bit wrong, but that 10GB of shared memory — without years of optimization experience — is really hard to make work.”

Luckily, those hurdles appear to have been overcome, and Xbox players will soon be able to dive into the mythological world of Sun Wukong.

In our official *Black Myth: Wukong* review, we praised the game for its intense combat, memorable boss fights, and stunning visuals, stating:

“Despite some frustrating technical issues, *Black Myth: Wukong* is a great action game with fantastic combat, exciting bosses, tantalizing secrets, and a beautiful world.”

Beyond performance concerns, the game has also faced scrutiny over past allegations involving the developer, including reports of workplace culture issues uncovered back in 2023.
