In the expansive world of Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot stands out as one of the most crucial herbs you'll encounter in Rivellon. This herb becomes essential during the fourth act when you undertake the Miester's Ritual under the guidance of Miester Siva. To successfully perform this ritual, you need to craft a special Ritual Bowl by combining a ritual bowl, a bloody obsidian lancet, and Blackroot. Completing this ritual grants you access to the Hall of Echoes and the invaluable Night Vision skill.
When you first perform the Miester's Ritual, all necessary ingredients can be conveniently found in Siva's basement. However, after earning a Source point, you'll need to source these ingredients yourself for subsequent rituals. While obtaining a ritual bowl and an obsidian lancet is generally straightforward, finding Blackroot can be a bit more challenging. If you're struggling to locate this elusive herb, this guide is here to help.
Venture Into Cloisterwood
Cloisterwood, a dense forest situated in the northwestern part of Reaper's Coast, is your best bet for finding Blackroot. It's a short journey north from Driftwood. Once you're deep in the forest, use the left ALT key to highlight all available pickups.
Keep an eye out for various herbs at the base of trees, including the Blackroot you're after. While you only need one Blackroot for the ritual, it's wise to gather a few extra as a precaution. This guide avoids detailed spoilers about the number of rituals needed, but remember, you can perform the ritual each time you earn a new Source point.
Cloisterwood Exploration Tips
Cloisterwood is not just a place to find Blackroot; it's brimming with secrets and notable NPCs. You can encounter Hannag and Jahan, both of whom can help you gain Source points. Jahan also plays a significant role in advancing Lohse's storyline. Hidden within some ruins, you'll find Eithne, an undead trader. By selecting the "Divine Order" option when interacting with her, you can embark on a side quest.
Further north, at the pier, you'll meet the Dead Ferryman, who can transport you to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the intriguing NPCs you might encounter in Cloisterwood. The forest also holds other secrets, such as the Wrecker's Cave and the potential to obtain a unique loremaster amulet by conversing with the spirit of a ship captain. If you're exploring Cloisterwood for the first time, take your time to thoroughly investigate the area. It's recommended to avoid confronting the crucified witch, Alice Alisceon, until you reach at least level 15.
