The developers of Hollow Knight: Silksong have clarified the game's brief appearance during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase 2025, where it was featured alongside the new ROG Ally X handheld.
During the presentation, Xbox president Sarah Bond announced Silksong would be "available at launch and in Game Pass when Ally releases later this year" - leading many to assume the game would specifically debut alongside the hardware's Holiday 2025 launch window.
However, Silksong creator Team Cherry has since corrected this assumption.
In messages shared on the game's official Discord and viewed by IGN, Team Cherry marketing manager Matthew 'Leth' Griffin confirmed Silksong isn't being held back for the ROG Ally X launch, clarifying the game will actually arrive before the holiday season.
"I confirmed BEFORE Holiday," Griffin stated, adding: "we are not tied to a console release." When asked for clarification about which holiday he meant, Griffin specified: "Christmas yes."
This timeline opens questions about Silksong's exact release date. Notably, the game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture in Melbourne starting September 18. Could this museum debut hint at an imminent launch date?

Fans had hoped for concrete release date information during the Xbox showcase, especially after multiple updates to Silksong's Steam page last week suggested an imminent launch or possible shadow drop.
Instead, Xbox reserved its surprise release for Final Fantasy 16, leaving Silksong enthusiasts still awaiting definitive news about the long-anticipated Metroidvania sequel. However, with Christmas now just six months away, the wait may finally be nearing its end.
For those considering playing Silksong on the upcoming hardware, IGN has already published hands-on impressions of the ROG Ally X.
