Second Dinner, a California-based studio, developed the engaging game Marvel Snap, but it's ByteDance's subsidiary Nuverse that took on the role of publisher. Unfortunately, due to widespread app bans that also affected other apps like CapCut and Lemon8, Marvel Snap faced a sudden halt in availability on iOS and Android platforms as of January 18, 2025. This unexpected move has left many players grappling with authorization issues, although PC gamers can still access the game on Steam. The developers at Second Dinner were taken aback by this turn of events and have reassured fans that they are diligently working to bring the game back online. A statement from a Platform X official echoed this sentiment:
“Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress”.
One of the most frustrating elements of this situation was the lack of prior warning to players. Many continued to spend money on in-game purchases, unaware of the looming lockout. While Marvel Snap was hit, not all ByteDance apps faced the same fate; games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.
In other news, we recently covered the addition of Moonstone to Marvel Snap's roster. This new card is a game-changer in the Ongoing archetype, a much-needed boost for the current meta. As a 4-cost, 6-power Ongoing card, Moonstone uniquely allows players to benefit from the ongoing effects of their 1, 2, and 3-cost cards within her lane. With a significant number of low-cost Ongoing cards already in the game, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which typically boost power, Moonstone stands out by harnessing these effects at no additional cost, potentially leading to powerful plays.
