This new Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 developer diary showcases exciting gameplay footage, focusing on the mechanics of vampire hunting and maintaining the Masquerade.
In the world of Vampire: The Masquerade, vampires must conceal their true nature from humans. Bloodlines 2 reflects this with a Masquerade meter, visually represented by an eye icon at the top of the screen. This meter tracks actions that violate the Masquerade, displaying three levels of transgression:
- Green: Minor violations; simply hiding will suffice.
- Yellow: Multiple infractions, such as feeding or using aggressive powers, requiring the player to deal with witnesses or evade the police.
- Red: A major breach; the police are actively pursuing the player. Escape and concealment are crucial, as the Camarilla will intervene once the meter is full. (See the included gameplay clip for an example.)
Players can mitigate their "infamy" by making witnesses forget their actions or, alternatively, eliminating them. If the police are involved, hiding until the situation cools down is the most effective strategy.
The developers highlight that the risk of exposure will steadily increase throughout the game, demanding swift and decisive actions from players to maintain the Masquerade.
