Canceled Batman Arkham Knight Sequel Art Reveals Grizzled Bruce Wayne

Author : Leo Jan 04,2026

Concept art for a canceled follow-up to Batman: Arkham Knight, which would have starred Damian Wayne as the new Dark Knight, has surfaced online, giving us our clearest look yet at an older Bruce Wayne.

Code-named "Project Sabbath," the game was in development at Warner Bros. Games Montreal—the studio behind Batman: Arkham Origins—shortly after the release of 2015's Arkham Knight. The story would have featured both father and son sharing the Batman mantle.

Ultimately, Warner Bros. canceled the project, and WB Games Montreal shifted focus to 2022's poorly received Gotham Knights, a game that didn't include Batman at all.

At the time, Project Sabbath was positioned as Warner Bros.' next major Batman game, while Rocksteady explored concepts with other characters. However, Rocksteady eventually returned to its version of Batman—though in a different way—with its ill-fated title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Images recently shared by a former WB Games Montreal artist on ArtStation showcase a younger Damian Wayne, a grizzled and bearded Bruce Wayne, plus concept designs for Killer Croc and Huntress.

It remains unclear whether the game would have fit into the Arkhamverse canon. Some designs—especially a very different take on Killer Croc—suggest it might have been a fresh interpretation. However, a similar shift in character design happened with Poison Ivy in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is part of the Arkham universe. WB Games Montreal also developed Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel widely considered canon to Rocksteady's main trilogy.

This isn't the first time concept art from the canceled project has appeared online. In 2021, another former WB Games Montreal developer shared images of Damian Wayne in his Batsuit—a sleek design with a red Bat-symbol on the chest.

The same older, bearded Bruce Wayne was also depicted in those earlier designs, though only while wearing the Batsuit, keeping his face hidden. The art indicates that the retired Bruce would have still suited up at some point in the story.

After launching Gotham Knights and assisting Rocksteady on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, WB Games Montreal underwent downsizing in December 2024, resulting in nearly 100 job losses. Rocksteady's cooperative game featuring Batman's allies underperformed, but the studio is now reportedly returning to a single-player Batman title.

Perhaps this new project will finally deliver the Bruce and Damian Wayne adventure fans have long anticipated.
