Choosing Your Faction in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Author : Zachary Apr 10,2025

Like most *Dynasty Warriors* games, *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* immerses you in the thrill of hacking and slashing through ancient China alongside various warlords. However, a pivotal moment comes when you must choose which faction to join. Here's a comprehensive guide to selecting factions in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Factions Explained

In *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, the narrative unfolds across several chapters. During the first two chapters, your character, the Wanderer, remains unaffiliated, moving freely among Sun Jian’s, Cao Cao’s, and Liu Bei’s factions. You'll assist them in battles and participate in significant events like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate.

However, upon reaching Chapter 3, the game prompts you that by the end of this chapter, you must commit to one of the three factions. By this stage, you should have a good sense of which faction resonates with you, but if you're still undecided, the game offers additional battles to help you make an informed decision.

To progress, you need to complete a specific number of missions for each faction. To ally with Sun Jian, you must complete three battles; Liu Bei requires two, and Cao Cao asks for just one. Once you've fulfilled the mission requirements for a faction, a new mission will unlock, forcing you to choose a side. For instance, if you complete Cao Cao’s mission first, you'll be prompted to choose between him and Liu Bei, with the option to select Liu Bei unavailable if you haven't completed his missions. You can always go back and complete missions for all factions before making your final choice.

Once you make your decision, the faction you choose not to join will be locked out for the remainder of the game. This means you won't be able to accept sidequests from their officers or increase your bond with them, potentially making your chosen path more challenging. For example, aligning with Liu Bei might limit your opportunities to earn skill points from sidequests due to fewer commanding officers to interact with.

Each faction's route offers unique missions, so if you're keen on experiencing all that *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* has to offer, consider creating an extra save file before choosing your allegiance. This way, you can reload and explore different alliances.

That's how you select a faction in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. The game is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
