Doraemon Launches Dorayaki Shop on Mobile

  • Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story brings retro-style fun featuring the beloved mascot, Doraemon.
  • Manage your own Dorayaki pastry shop, decorate it, and serve customers.
  • This latest Kairosoft release delivers the familiar retro simulation charm the studio is known for.

The world of Japanese manga can be quite unusual in many respects. For instance, series that helped define anime fandom in the West—like Hellsing, Soul Eater, or Code Geass—are relatively obscure compared to giants such as One Piece or Dragon Ball. Meanwhile, Doraemon, though something of a curiosity outside Japan, is a cultural icon at home.

It's little wonder, then, that many at Pocket Gamer weren't quite sure what to make of Kairosoft's Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story. But for manga enthusiasts with deeper knowledge, the prospect of a genuine global release for this kind of spin-off is truly exciting.

In terms of gameplay, DDSS is straightforward: you run a Dorayaki shop (a type of Japanese pancake pastry), managing it in a Diner Dash-style format while decorating, preparing various sweets, and encountering familiar characters from the Doraemon series.

    As Sweet as Candy

With its crisp pixel visuals and vibrant color palette, the appeal of Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story is easy to see. That said, with an upfront price tag, those unfamiliar with this adorable blue cat might hesitate to give it a try.

However, coming from Kairosoft—a developer renowned for its simulation games—even skeptics might want to give DDSS a second look. At the very least, a premium price suggests a (hopefully) premium experience.

If you're still not convinced, don't worry. If you're passionate about the wide, vibrant, and often wonderfully strange world of Japanese manga and anime, you're sure to find something to enjoy in our list of the top 15 best anime mobile games available today!
