DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans: Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on Max on August 21. Gunn shared this update alongside a brief teaser of new footage, which showcases John Cena's character in action, complete with a smirk to the camera against a backdrop of raging fire. In the clip, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now."
In a tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating, "Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21."
Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the official start of Gunn's rebooted DCU. It will be the third entry in this new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the old universe will persist, with Peacemaker serving as a bridge between the two. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be fully integrated into the new DCU.
Gunn has hinted at continuity, noting that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will carry over remain undisclosed. Fans can expect the return of the entire Team Peacemaker with the same cast, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
