Disney's Star Wars Horror Project Confirmed by Andor Showrunner

Author : Aurora Apr 24,2025

In an intriguing revelation, Tony Gilroy, the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed Star Wars series "Andor," has hinted at a secret Star Wars horror project in development at Disney. During a recent chat with Business Insider, Gilroy expressed enthusiasm about the darker side of the galaxy far, far away and suggested that Disney is already exploring this chilling concept.

“They're doing that. I think they're doing that,” Gilroy stated, affirming the existence of a Star Wars horror project. “I think that's in the works, yeah.”

7 ImagesIf Gilroy's comments hold true, fans might soon experience Star Wars delving into the Dark Side in a way that has never been portrayed before. While details about this mysterious project are scarce, it could take shape as a TV series, a movie, or something entirely new. The creative leadership behind this venture remains undisclosed, and it may be a while before we get more concrete news from Lucasfilm about this thrilling horror project. However, Gilroy's remarks indicate that Disney is open to innovative storytelling.

"The right creator, and the right moment, and the right vibe … you can do anything,” Gilroy noted, reflecting on his experience with "Andor." “So, my hope is that the show connects, and then we can pass along the favor that we were given from 'Mandalorian,' and we can pass along a good healthy backwind to someone else who wants to do something else cool."

The prospect of a full-fledged Star Wars horror movie has long been a dream for many fans, including Mark Hamill. While the Star Wars universe has primarily focused on the saga of the Skywalkers and their myriad allies and adversaries, there remains untapped potential in exploring its more shadowy realms. Some spin-offs have ventured into darker territory, but major releases have typically catered to a broad audience, avoiding the horror genre.
