Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by popular streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three years of operation. The studio, which also included veterans from games like Call of Duty and Halo such as Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, has decided to shut its doors and cancel its anticipated FPS game, Deadrop.
In a post on X, Midnight Society expressed gratitude for their time together, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The studio also reached out to the gaming community, asking if any other studios are hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.

Deadrop was envisioned as a free-to-play FPS game set in a fictional universe where "the 80s never ended." The game's concept featured characters donning Daft Punk-like helmets and wielding an array of weapons, including guns and swords. It was designed to be a PvPvE style extraction shooter, blending competitive and cooperative gameplay elements.
Originally targeting a 2024 release, Deadrop missed its deadline, contributing to the studio's decision to close. Midnight Society parted ways with Beahm in 2024 following revelations that the streamer had engaged in inappropriate messaging with a minor via Twitch's Whispers feature. Despite this split, the studio continued working on Deadrop until the decision to shut down was made this year.
The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing closure or layoffs in the challenging landscape of the gaming industry. Companies such as Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs have also been impacted by these difficult times.
