Open Drive is a revolutionary racing game for mobile devices, now available in early access on Android. This game, developed by the charity organization SpecialEffect in collaboration with Sun & Moon Studios, is more than just a game; it's a beacon of inclusivity in gaming. Built from the ground up to be accessible, Open Drive supports various control methods including touch, keyboard and mouse, switch access, and controllers, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the thrill of the race.
One of the most groundbreaking features of Open Drive is its mobile-specific eye control system. Players using eye gaze technology can navigate the game's expansive open worlds—Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow—simply by looking left or right. This feature is a massive step forward for accessibility, allowing players with physical challenges to experience gaming in a way that was previously inaccessible to them.
The gameplay in Open Drive is incredibly versatile. Players can leisurely drive around collecting orbs or chase high scores with daring jumps using vehicles like the Roadster, Trickster, or Speedster. The game also allows you to adjust the speed to your preference, making it enjoyable for both casual and competitive players. Open Drive Is Now Out in Early Access
Open Drive's early access version on Android smartly auto-detects your preferred control method and adapts the gameplay accordingly. It fully supports Switch Access on Android, and each control method has its own tailored setup. For touch controls, you can choose between 'Precise' and 'Classic' modes, which allow steering through taps or directional control. Similar custom setups are available for Switch Access, mouse, keyboard, and Android-compatible gamepads/controllers.
While the eye control feature is not fully implemented in the early access version, it's set to be included in the full release coming later this summer. You can experience Open Drive for free once the complete version is out. In the meantime, you can explore the early access version on the Google Play Store.
