The Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: A Cute Change Thanks to Nintendo Partnership

FromSoftware has recently provided more insights into their newly announced Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods. The collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also led to a unique design for the keeper of the hub area, introducing a character that is distinctly... cute.

During the Switch 2 Direct, the trailer concluded with a captivating shot of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, directly engaging the audience. This character, as it turns out, will serve as the hub companion in The Duskbloods.

In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki elaborated on the role of this character, stating, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." Miyazaki further explained the influence of Nintendo on the character's design, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."

When pressed for more details on the character's appearance, Miyazaki shared with a laugh, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman."

FromSoftware's shrine keepers have traditionally been pivotal to the player's journey, offering guidance and power. Iconic figures like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have become familiar touchstones for players. In The Duskbloods, a PvPvE game, the winged rat's role in providing advice and guidance remains a mystery, but Miyazaki assured that the team at FromSoft has incorporated "a lot of new and interesting ideas." Fans can anticipate surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
