Dynasty Warriors 10 Was Canceled

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Rises from the Ashes of a Canceled Predecessor

The upcoming Dynasty Warriors: Origins, slated for release on January 17, 2025, boasts a unique genesis. Omega Force, the development studio, initially embarked on creating the 10th mainline Dynasty Warriors game. However, technological advancements spurred a strategic shift, leading to the cancellation of this project and the birth of Origins.

This decision, as revealed in an interview with 4Gamer and translated by SiliconEra, stemmed from witnessing the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and other contemporary consoles. The team recognized the potential for a more modern and strategically rich experience, prompting a redirection of their efforts.

The canceled Dynasty Warriors 10, while significantly different from Origins, wasn't entirely abandoned. Producer Tomohiko Sho emphasized the impact of modern hardware on the decision. Producer Masamichi Oba further clarified that several key elements from the scrapped project found their way into Origins. This includes the free-roaming map feature, a concept Oba had previously envisioned for the canceled title, and a more in-depth exploration of the Three Kingdoms Era's narrative.

While the shift was challenging, the team successfully integrated the best aspects of previous Dynasty Warriors titles, along with salvaged elements from the abandoned project, resulting in the fast-paced, hack-and-slash combat set within the Three Kingdoms period that defines Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The game features a mysterious amnesiac protagonist interacting with renowned historical figures. Deluxe Edition players have already experienced this blend of classic and innovative gameplay. The full release on January 17th, 2025, promises a captivating journey through a reimagined Three Kingdoms setting.
