Dynasty Warriors: Origins - How To Switch Characters

Quick Links

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. Your journey offers many story choices, and companions frequently join you in battle. These companions fight alongside you, but you can occasionally take direct control. They're incredibly powerful, often surpassing the Wanderer's effectiveness, even with upgrades. Here's how to switch:

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Character switching is only possible during battles where you have a companion. Before a battle, the war council menu offers your companion as a final option; you can choose to fight alone, but you can't select a companion there. Once the battle begins, your companion's health bar appears below yours.

Below their health bar is a blue meter, similar to your Musou gauge. This fills as you fight, accelerating with actions like:

  • Parrying attacks
  • Perfect dodges
  • Assaulting Officers
  • Using Weapon Arts

Most combat actions gradually fill this meter.

When your companion's blue meter is full, a "Change Character" button appears beside it. Press and hold this button for about a second to switch. This is the View button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching characters is best reserved for the heat of battle, as companions are exceptionally strong, and control is temporary (roughly a minute). The blue meter, which allowed the switch, slowly depletes, showing your remaining control time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and a range of powerful combat arts.

Switching also initiates a powerful attack. Aim carefully! Your companion retains their own filled Musou and health bars, enabling their special attack to decimate enemies.
