Elden Ring will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025.
Nintendo shared this exciting (though somewhat expected) announcement during its Switch 2 Direct event. While details remain unclear about how FromSoftware's open-world masterpiece will perform on Switch 2 compared to other platforms, its showcase confirms Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will reach Nintendo players later this year.
Since its February 2022 release, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon - selling 13 million copies in its first month and reaching nearly 29 million to date. Players have defeated bosses using Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controllers, while speedrunners continue pushing boundaries. Following 2023's exceptional Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the upcoming cooperative spinoff Elden Ring: Nightreign shows promising potential based on early network tests.
In IGN's perfect 10/10 review, we praised: "Elden Ring revolutionizes FromSoftware's Souls formula, transplanting its signature challenging combat into a breathtaking open world that empowers players to forge their own journey." Shadow of the Erdtree similarly earned 10/10: "Mirroring the base game's achievement, this DLC redefines single-player expansions - distilling Elden Ring's RPG brilliance into a 20-25 hour experience while delivering fresh challenges for devoted fans."
FromSoftware hasn't announced specific release dates or detailed how Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition differs from previous versions. For full coverage of today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct announcements, stay tuned here.
