New Evidence of Rumored Elder Scrolls 4 Remake Surfaces

Oblivion Remake Hints Emerge: Unreal Engine 5 and 2025 Release Speculation

A developer's LinkedIn profile fuels speculation about an Oblivion remake built using Unreal Engine 5. While unconfirmed, many fans anticipate an official reveal during a potential Xbox Developer Direct in 2025. The anticipation extends to a hoped-for new trailer for Elder Scrolls VI before the year's end.

Rumors of an Oblivion remake have circulated for years, with a 2023 prediction suggesting a 2024 or 2025 launch. Xbox insider Jez Corden further fueled the fire in late December 2024, predicting a January 2025 unveiling at an Xbox Developer Direct. The possibility is strengthened by the company's history of hosting similar events in January 2023 and 2024. This latest LinkedIn profile adds significant weight to the existing speculation.

A Technical Art Director at Virtuos, a Chinese developer reportedly involved, boasts on their LinkedIn profile of working on an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S." While the game isn't explicitly named, the context strongly suggests it's Oblivion. The use of Unreal Engine 5 points towards a full remake rather than a simple remaster, a departure from previous assumptions. Separate rumors of a Fallout 3 remaster surfaced in late 2023, though its current status remains unclear.

Oblivion Remake Rumors Gain Traction

Released in 2006, Oblivion, the sequel to 2002's Morrowind, received widespread critical acclaim for its expansive world, visuals, and soundtrack. Since 2012, a dedicated community has worked on Skyblivion, a fan-made recreation of Oblivion within Skyrim's engine. A recent video update from the Skyblivion team hinted at a potential 2025 release for their ambitious project.

The future of the Elder Scrolls franchise remains shrouded in mystery. The only trailer for Elder Scrolls VI, released in 2018, offers little concrete information. Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed it as their next major project after Starfield, with director Todd Howard suggesting a release timeframe of "15 to 17 years after Skyrim." While a firm release date remains elusive, fans are hopeful for a fresh trailer before the close of 2025.
