Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, according to Hashino. His focus remains on completing the current project, which was initially conceived as a third major JRPG franchise alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. The goal is for it to become a flagship title for Atlus.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already working on their next endeavor. However, an anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is under consideration. The game itself has been a remarkable success for Atlus, achieving the company's best-ever concurrent player count on launch, exceeding 85,961. This significantly outperforms Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
