Fallout 76 Season 20 introduces an exciting new feature that allows players to transform into Ghouls in the radiation-filled world of Appalachia. This update, titled "The Ghoul Within," is now live and brings a host of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetic options to enhance your C.A.M.P.
Unleash the Ghoul Within
In this latest update, players can embark on the "Leap of Faith" questline to undergo Ghoulification. This journey leads you to a new area in the Savage Divide, where you'll encounter unique characters who aid in your transformation. As a Ghoul, you'll gain access to exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks, known as "Gherks."
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics, offering boosts based on the Feral meter's level. At 0%, you'll experience dramatic gameplay changes, including a massive +150% increase in Melee Damage, but at the cost of -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, and a staggering -300% reduction in Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. Accuracy.
On the other hand, the Glow ability allows you to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing you to emit a glow. This ability not only boosts your maximum health and heals damage but also enhances your Gherks.
With 28 perks to choose from and two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls, you'll have plenty of options to customize your gameplay. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls, as they don't benefit from these.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the wasteland as a Ghoul becomes easier with the new abilities and Gherks at your disposal. However, be aware that factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may react negatively to Ghouls, potentially making them hostile and restricting access to certain questlines.
To circumvent these limitations, you can seek help from Jaye, a new NPC who provides disguises to interact with content that's otherwise inaccessible to Ghouls. If the Ghoul life doesn't suit you, you can revert to being human via the Character Screen, though this is a one-way decision. To become a Ghoul again, you'll need to purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
Whether you're new to Fallout 76 or a seasoned veteran, the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms, can accelerate your journey. This boost, part of the Season 20 update, equips you with various perks and enhancements, allowing immediate access to multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.
The update also includes numerous bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as accessibility improvements, combat balancing, and weapon damage modifications. Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, as part of their season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome its initial challenges and now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
