The Pointer Sisters' classic track "Hot Together" has experienced a phenomenal surge in Spotify streams, following its feature in the eagerly awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, which debuted just yesterday. Within the first two hours post-trailer release, the 1986 hit saw an astonishing 182,000% increase in streams. Although Spotify's latest figures show "Hot Together" at a modest 250,000 streams, these numbers are expected to skyrocket in the coming days.
"Grand Theft Auto cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else," remarked Spotify’s Global Head of Editorial, Sulinna Ong. "Music has been synonymous with the series since the very beginning, so it’s great to see fans both new and established connecting with an iconic track in this way."
Just 24 hours after Rockstar Games unveiled the latest glimpse of GTA 6, the trailer has amassed an impressive 77.7 million views on YouTube. The resurgence of "Hot Together" is remarkable but not surprising. When the first trailer for Rockstar's latest installment was released in late 2023, featuring Tom Petty's "Love Is A Long Road," it too saw a similarly massive boost in Spotify streams. This surge led to widespread speculation among gamers about potential connections to GTA 6’s storyline, although no such theories have yet surfaced for "Hot Together."
As fans eagerly await the (recently delayed) release of GTA 6 on May 26, 2026, Rockstar is providing them with plenty of great music to enjoy in the meantime.
