If you're diving into *Monster Hunter Wilds* and eager to take down the Chatacabra, this guide is your key to success, whether you aim to defeat or capture this early-game foe. As one of the first monsters you'll encounter, mastering the fight against the Chatacabra will set you up for success in your hunting career.
How to Beat Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds
The Chatacabra, a formidable frog-like creature, primarily employs close-range attacks, leveraging its long tongue to lash out at hunters. It may also charge if you maintain too much distance. Fortunately, as one of the easier monsters in the game, any weapon can be effectively used against it. However, due to its smaller size, weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade might be less optimal due to their multi-hit attacks being more suited for larger targets.
Most of the Chatacabra's attacks are tongue-based, making the area directly in front of it the most dangerous. Besides the tongue lash, it uses its front limbs to perform a ground slam, which is telegraphed by the monster rearing up. The only attack to watch out for from the back is when it raises its head and sweeps its tongue behind it.
To effectively take down the Chatacabra, position yourself by its sides, dodging or blocking when it prepares to slam. Utilizing its weaknesses to Ice and Thunder will expedite the battle, allowing you to claim victory and perhaps even sport a new frog skin hat soon after.
How to Capture Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds
Capturing the Chatacabra in *Monster Hunter Wilds* follows the standard procedure for any monster, but its inability to fly makes the process more straightforward. Equip yourself with a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap and at least two Tranq Bombs. For added security, consider carrying one of each trap and up to eight Tranq Bombs to handle any unexpected situations.
Engage the Chatacabra in combat until its icon on the mini-map displays a small skull, indicating it's weakened and attempting to retreat for the last time. Follow it to its chosen retreat spot, then set your trap and lure it in. Once the Chatacabra is trapped, deploy two Tranq Bombs to put it to sleep, completing the capture successfully.
