We now have our first glimpse at DC Studios’ latest take on the Green Lanterns—yes, plural.
HBO has unveiled an initial look at the upcoming Lanterns series, confirming Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. While neither actor is seen in the iconic emerald suits just yet, a closer look reveals Chandler wearing a Power Ring on his hand—a clear sign of things to come.

Lanterns is a forthcoming DC television series framed as a detective drama, drawing inspiration from acclaimed shows like True Detective and Slow Horses. The story follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they team up to investigate a murder that spirals into a far deeper and darker conspiracy. Set within James Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe, Lanterns shares continuity with projects like Creature Commando, the upcoming Superman film, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
The series is being developed by Damon Lindelof, known for Lost, alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King. Gunn has described the show’s tone as “very grounded, very believable, very real”—a stark departure from typical superhero fare and a bold new direction for a Green Lantern story.
Kyle Chandler, widely recognized for his role in Friday Night Lights, portrays a more seasoned version of Hal Jordan. Aaron Pierre, who gained attention for his performance in Rebel Ridge, steps into the role of John Stewart. The series is currently in production with a targeted 2026 premiere, aligning with the release year of the Supergirl movie.
